Cooking Class at The Farm in Phoenix

Want to learn how to cook with different farmer-fresh organic ingredients? Do you receive your produce from your CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) or the farmers’ market and are puzzled on how to cook with them?

Join The Farm at South Mountain and local Phoenix cookbook author, Melanie Albert of Experience Nutrition for a unique, hands-on cooking opportunity to create delicious dishes with simple culinary skills and fresh, Arizona in-season organic ingredients. Once you intuitively create your dishes, you’ll enjoy mindfully eating your beautiful creations with community in the beauty of The Farm.

Intuitive Cooking. Learn how to cook our local Arizona farmers’ produce with simple culinary techniques and the skill of intuitive cooking. Melanie’s philosophy is that once we learn a few simple culinary skills, we can go to the farmers’ market and intuitively purchase foods with colors and textures we are attracted to. Then, when we come home we can cook our veggies intuitively with skills such as sautéing, roasting, steaming, or even raw.

For the Winter Farm-to-Table Cooking Class Melanie will intuitively shop the Saturday farmers’ markets for local, Phoenix fresh, just-harvested produce the day before the class.

During the hands-on cooking experience you’ll learn culinary skills and dishes from Melanie’s book, “A New View of Healthy Eating.” You will create:

  • A beautiful, unique Asian-inspired salad with ginger dressing
  • Seasonal chickpea hummus with fresh herbs
  • Colorful veggie stir-fry with lots of greens

You’ll learn a few simple key culinary skills:

  • 3-Ingredient salad dressing, as the foundation for the perfect dressing
  • A basic hummus that you can adapt with all kinds of herbs and spices
  • The proper steps and process to make a veggie stir-fry
