About the Organization

The Farm at South Mountain is a 10-acre pecan grove in South Phoenix that was established in the 1920’s. The property is home to two events venues, a two-acre organic garden, three garden to table restaurants, a modern boutique, farmer’s market and therapeutic healer. About the Position

The Farm is looking to fill an Urban Grower position with someone who is excited about sustainable and organic farming, working with youth and education entities, and who is up for the challenge of a physically demanding schedule, tasks and pace of the farming and events seasons. The Urban Grower will be expected to be the face of The Farm when it comes to gardening education and being a respected influencer in the local farming scene.

As The Farm’s Urban Grower, you will be working with many people including: restaurant staff and managers, event staff and manager, marketing personnel, groundskeepers, volunteers and educational groups. The Farm is looking to hire a flexible and personable grower that has 3-plus years experience at an organic production farm, has run a CSA Program and has implemented a farmer’s market booth. The Urban Grower reports to The Farm Manager and the owner of The Farm.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a seasonal soil preparation, planting, management, irrigation and harvesting plan for all garden beds. (Organic management practices required.)
  • Develop annual budget for cultivation of garden plots.
  • Manage purchases and expenses within the annual budget.
  • Supervise hired garden crew. Supervise and educate any partner school volunteers.
  • Operate and maintain tools and equipment in a safe and proper manner.
  • Interact effectively with property owner and Farm manager to communicate issues with infrastructure, maintenance, safety and support of garden site.
  • Maintain a year round garden look for farm guests.
